MY APPROACH

I use the techniques of hypnotherapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and solution-focused therapy.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy uses deep physical and mental relaxation, which allows direct communication with the subconscious. When given a new suggestion that is within the bounds of a person's belief system and moral orientation, the subconscious mind accepts the suggestion literally as a new reality.

This ability to reprogram emotional attitudes and reactions is a talent within every human being. Hypnosis is one of the most functional and efficient ways to overcome life long attitudes that the conscious mind has been unable to change. 

Hypnotherapy provides a safe way to quickly enhance your healing process. Relaxation, improved stress management, and increased self-awareness are natural by-products of the process. Hypnotherapy is safe and gentle. You are always aware. You are always in charge.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

It is often difficult for our brain to process a traumatic or very negative event. The memory of the experience or bad feelings about the experience get "stuck" in our nervous system or our brain.

Without even knowing it, we can put up a wall with our emotions. Later when something happens to us NOW, in our present life, that reminds us of the original traumatic experience, THEN, the feelings can get "triggered"...in other words, it hit a sore spot and you might overreact to the situation at hand.

When this happens, it can leave you wondering, "Why did I react so strongly?" The protocol used in EMDR seems to make the brain work like it does when you sleep - it "digests" the experiences and lets them process normally. Healing occurs.

Your body and mind know intuitively how to heal. During EMDR they work together to "jump start" the healing process.

EMDR can reduce the intensity of disturbing thoughts or emotions. It can even eliminate them all together regardless of how long they have existed. EMDR follows a specifically designed protocol and involves a combination of dual stimulation (eye movements, auditory tones, or tapping).

Solution Focused Therapy

Solution Focused therapy is a very flexible, client-centered model of doing counseling. It focuses on your perceived Ideal Life and only deals with the past as it affects the future.

As your counselor, I concentrate upon supporting your strengths, abilities, and resources. Our counseling relationship is very interactive and cooperative focusing on what works for you based on who you uniquely are. Goals are clearly defined and reinforced each session.
